Offer letter – a formal letter confirming an offer of employment sent to the successful candidate.
Standard employment contract (full-time) – an agreement between an employer and employee that sets out the terms of full-time employment. When a startup employs staff, it must ensure that it has an employment contract in place that is compliant with the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) and it contains the necessary terms protecting confidentiality and intellectual property.
Standard employment contract (casual) – an agreement between an employer and a casual employee that sets out terms of employment. As casual employees are not entitled to permanent employee entitlements and have no guarantee of work or regular hours work, a separate employment contract is required.
Standard contractor agreement – an agreement between a startup and contractor which spells out the terms of engagement, including documenting that all confidential information and intellectual property created by the contractor belongs to the startup. A detailed and unambiguous contractor agreement also assists a startup to mitigate the risk of any employment and tax disputes.
Essential workplace policies – employers can more easily defend themselves against unfair dismissal claims or other litigation if they shift the onus for complying with industrial relations, workplace safety, anti-discrimination and bullying laws to employees by creating employment policies and procedures.
